A Close Friend...

With some of the events that took place over the past couple of days, I have had such a heavy heart. I asked for those that read my blog to say prayers for Patrick Delaney and his family. Patrick went to meet our Almighty Father last Thursday. I know that his family and friends will need extra prayers during this time. I know that some of his family and friends are unable to be here due to their location or some unfortunate conflicts that won’t allow them to make it here. I pray that they are able to look to God for comfort and lean on him during this time.

As we see the family and friends grieve for their loved one, it reminds Matt and I what we went through 5 years ago, when we lost a very close friend to a car accident. It still is fresh in our minds (and always will)…Matt’s friend Robbie was driving home late one night with some of his friends. He was driving a friend’s truck because his truck was broke down and on the trailer that they were hauling during the time of the accident. He went around the corner and went off the side of the road, over corrected, and went into a tree. Robbie was killed upon impact, his friends sustain injuries, some more serious than others, but were able to make a full recovery.

We just had Gracie about 5 weeks prior and Matt was going to go to a tractor pull, but with being a new parent, he didn’t feel comfortable to leave me by myself for the night, so he decided not to go. So, Matt’s parents went to the pull and met up with Robbie and his parents.

Matt’s mom and dad came home that Sunday morning and came right over and told us the news. We were shocked…Could this be??? Are you sure??? What happened??? All those questions running through our minds…Matt and another friend left to go be with Robbie’s parents. The next couple of days seemed to play in slow motion…not knowing what to do. We were numb.

Matt and Robbie became friends through tractor pulling. I met Robbie sometime during our courtship. He was funny, outgoing, and much like Matt just a great guy all around. When Matt and I got married, he was one of our groomsmen and was so funny at the reception, climbing up on the table to dance, and getting Jake up there too. The next day, somehow, he knew all of our friends and their life story.

Matt and Robbie both were very similar in ways and not to mention both became parents within 2 weeks of each other. Robbie had a son about 2 weeks before Grace was born…we see Kody often (not as much as we would like due to him living a couple hours away), but Gracie and Kody will be life long friends…sometimes we joke that they will one day be married.

With our ever growing faith I have came to realize things like this happen…we might never know the reason for it, just that one day we will be with our Almighty Father and that he has a plan for us all.

God Bless...
